Battle of the Books 2017

Our team met at 6:00 am this past Saturday to fly to Seoul for the Battle of the Books 2017. Over 200 students gathered at Seoul Foreign School to compete. There were 19 teams from 9 international schools.

For the past three months, we have been busy preparing for this big book trivia competition. We read ten books and then practiced answering comprehension questions about them.

We competed in 5 matches... Each match had two rounds (lasting ten minutes each). We took turns answering questions about the ten books.

At the end of the day, we were excited to have earned 11 out of a possible 15 points.  What a great example of hard work, collaboration, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship!

We relaxed at Lotte Mall before heading back to Jeju.

Well done, everyone!

Take Away the A by Michael Escoffier

The fifth and final picture book being considered for the Morning Calm Medal this year
is Michael Escoffier's Take away the A!

"Take Away the A is a fun, imaginative romp through the alphabet. The idea behind the book is that within every language there are words that change and become a different word through the simple subtraction of a single letter. In other words, without the "A," the Beast is Best. Or, without the "M," a chomp becomes a chop—though it could be that this particular play on words didn't even make it into the book, there are so many! We certainly don't want to give too much away. . . . Now, take a look and find some more! Discovering all of the words in the book is a lot of fun, and then there's the wild, exciting adventure that follows, of trying to find more!" - Amazon review
