Happy Birthday, Roald Dahl!
On Tuesday, September 13th, people all over the world are celebrating 100 years of Roald Dahl.
To help celebrate, we are having a yellow colour day. All students and teachers are invited to come to school wearing Roald Dahl's favourite colour... yellow.

As well, we encourage everyone to have fun exploring The Official Roald Dahl Website. There you will find photos, book descriptions, and character sketches as well as video and sound clips and a virtual tour of the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
You can learn from the master storyteller himself about the craft of writing at
http://www.roalddahl.com/create-and-learn/write/roald-dahl-on-writing
You can try your hand at making some revolting recipes at http://roalddahl.com/create-and-learn/make/revolting-recipes
Get crafty and creative at http://roalddahl.com/create-and-learn/make/get-crafty
Most importantly, take time to enjoy one or more of his fantastic stories today!

Horrible Histories by Terry Deary
We are excited to offer Terry Deary's books to our students. Mr. Deary is probably best known for his Horrible Histories series. He hooks students into history with his unique humorous perspective... He leaves in the nasty bits!
Visit the series' cool website at http://horrible-histories.co.uk/

Design a Bookmark for the Library Contest
Calling all artists!
You are invited to submit a design for a library bookmark. We use a bookmark to hold our spot when we are reading. This is a super way to care for our books.
You can pick up the blank paper at the library. The contest ends Friday, September 2. Please write your name and class on the back of your bookmark before handing it into the library.
The winning designs will be printed for use in the library.
Have fun being creative!

The Start of a New School Year
Open a book
And you will find
People and places of every kind;
Open a book
And you can be
Anything you want to be;
Open a book
And you can share
Wondrous words you find in there;
Open a book
And I will too
You read to me
And I'll read to you!
