Chuckle for the Day

It goes without saying that one of the most popular sections in our library is 741.5.  This is where the comics are found and some of our favourite book characters (Charlie Brown, Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, etc.) live.

"Free Choice Friday" has been a hit with our Grade 1 and 2 students as they comb the 741.5 shelves for a favourite comic book to take home each weekend!

Activity Wrap Up

Last week, we wrapped up our Grade 1-2 activity time.  We have spent the fall enjoying and responding to stories... dinosaurs, superheroes, pirates, adventurers... fun times!

Thought for the Day

"Reading is a tool no one can take away.  A million bad things may happen in life and it'll still be with you, like a flashlight that never needs a battery.  Reading can offer a crack of light on the blackest of nights."

Taking Time to Give Thanks

This past week in library, in honor of American Thanksgiving, we took time to enjoy a Thanksgiving story.  Grades 3- 5 listened to Dav Pilkey's 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving while Grades 1-2 enjoyed A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting.  After the story, we took time to brainstorm all of the different people, places, events, and things in our lives for which we are thankful.  This is a super habit to develop.  Research shows thankful people live happier, healthier, longer, more enriched lives!

We are open at lunch time!

This year, we started a library pass system.
Students can come at any  time during the school day with a library pass
to exchange books, looking for information, and, of course, enjoy a good book.
Our Grade 5 students have been enjoying this new opportunity
to come and hang out in the library during lunch recess.
